Relationships

Julien has been sick for days....weeks it feels like, but in the last few days it has become worse.  He had a fever last night over 104.  He has been throwing up.  He struggles to breathe and coughs and has been complaining of ear pain.  "My ear feels sticky and hot."  He said.  Tonight he ate for the first time in three days really, but he is now medicated.  We did a Sunday doctor visit today because his lethargy and moaning and shakiness was too much to bear.  He has an ear infection.  After all of that.
In his delirum he said some pretty amazing things that I don't want to forget....such as;
Last night with his fever of 104 he sat on the little potty with flushed cheeks and said out of nowhere:
"Jesus doesn't mind if I poop."  Or today he sat like a folded up lump on the couch and said:
"Mama, I'm a broken man."  Tonight he sat silently in front of his partially eaten grapefruit while I made dinner and suddenly croaked out:  "The grapefruit is telling me I have to pick my nose."  I made him repeate this one because I couldn't quite believe it.  As he was going to bed two night ago he was convinced that Lukas' picture was not a picture of two kids hugging in a house but it was clearly a "scarry monster dipping peppers in hummus."  Gotta love that little boy.

Lukas went skiing today with Jorg.  He had a really hard time deciding which adult he should take with him.  Clearly one of us had to stay with little sick Julien.  It was a sunny day after a big snow storm and it was a ski for free day.  First he was going with Jorg and then suddenly he wanted to go with me.  He had some clear logic in his head for changing his mind but wouldn't tell me what it was.  Either he wanted me because Julien wanted me to stay home.  Or maybe he wanted me because he was worried that Jorg would try to convince him to go on blue squares.  Maybe he felt sorry for me because I was moaning about not skiing on such a beautiful day.  Who knows.

Both boys are such bundles of personality and unraveling mystery.  They are such fun and such little exhausting monsters. At one moment Lukas will be offering Julien tea and making him a cozy spot on the couch, fetching him his special kitty and asking if he needs a story read to him.  Or Julien will be getting "Yukie" his "baby doo dee" (still a celebrity in our household) and giving Lukas the best bar stool at the counter.  The next minute Julien is stabbing Lukas with a plastic sword and knocking over his hard built lego creation and Lukas is tricking Julien to get off the train or bike so he can laugh and steal it and gloat about how he tricked him.  Ah.....siblings......Ah relationships!

Oh, that is the best laugh I've had in days. I had to read the Julien quotes to Jason. Of course, I wouldn't be laughing if I didn't know Julien was okay. Glad the culprit has been identified and hope he's feeling better... Hoping you're all feeling better...
